Kabul: Rehab Hell

Synopsis

Since the Taliban retook Kabul in August 2021, the humanitarian situation has deteriorated considerably. Afghanistan remains the world’s largest producer of opium and the country also has high rates of addiction. The Taliban is trying to rid the country of heroin addicts, with particularly brutal methods.

This documentary is an examination into the Taliban’s contradictory tolerance to drugs in the past and present, their harsh new crackdown on addicts and the psychological state of a desperate country that has been trapped in an endless cycle of struggle and brutality.
